Round Hill, the largest subdivision in Alamo, saw its beginnings in 1959. During the first years of development there were few security problems. However, by the late 1960's, considerable vandalism had become widespread.
To answer the need for additional coverage, the P-5 Police District, covering the Round Hill area, was formed by a vote of the residents in December 1972. The result was the assignment of a full-time Sheriff's Department sergeant, in addition to the regular patrol provided.
The purpose of the P-5 program is to deter burglary and other related crimes and it has enjoyed great success. The crime rate in Round Hill is far below that of neighboring areas and is among the lowest in the County.
The service was expanded in 1981 by addition of a deputy. Currently, an additional deputy is shared with the P-2 District (Alamo), providing approximately 100 hours of coverage each week.
One of the duties of the P-5 officers is traffic control within the District. Speeding cars have been one of the most frequent complaints. The response of the Citizens Advisory Committee was to request radar. In the summer of 1982, the County surveyed the streets and the Sheriff's Department obtained a radar gun which the P-5 officers promptly began using. The result has been a noticeable decrease in the general speed of traffic.
The District is funded by a $150.00 per year/per family cost, which is charged to each resident's property tax bill.
The District serves an area which covers all of Round Hill proper, including any undeveloped areas, as well as areas adjoining Round Hill which use Round Hill streets for access, such as Bolla, Kemp, Windsor Green, Round Hill North, etc. Please refer to the map in the centerfold.
The District is budgeted and administered by the Sheriff's Department for the County Bd. of Supervisors. The Advisory Committee consists of a maximum of nine residents who voluntarily act as liaisons between the Bd. of Supervisors and the community. Members are appointed by the Bd. of Supervisors and serve for two-year periods, with one-half of the terms ending on alternate years. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the Round Hill Country Club and are open to the public.

Citizens Advisory Committee County Service Area P-5
Recall that last year we voted by a decisive margin to raise our P-5 tax. This allows us to stop deficit spending and at the same time increase our coverage to three full-time officers. Our P-5 Police District comprises not only the 397 homes surrounding the country club, but those adjacent areas of Bolla, St. Paul, Buckthorn, Britain, Windsor Green and Round Hill North, for a total of 750 homes.
